MWWine School, a course provider for the globally recognized WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust), brings back WSET® Level 1 and 2 Award in Wines starting October 23rd and, for the first time, WSET Level 3 Award in Wines in January 2024
Asheville, NC – September 12, 2023 – MWWine School today announced new dates for WSET Level 1, 2 and 3 Award in Wines classes in Asheville, NC. The WSET certification courses are among the most prestigious wine industry qualifications in the world and are ideal for beginners, connoisseurs, and wine and food industry professionals. MWWine School, a course provider for WSET, launched WSET classes in Asheville in January 2023. Through WSET classes and tasting seminars produced in conjunction with The Asheville School of Wine, MWWine School has already helped nearly 100 Asheville wine lovers expand their wine knowledge, and wine industry professionals achieve their certifications.
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines class will take place on October 28th, with Level 2 taking place October 23rd, 24th, 25th (exam on the 27th in Asheville. The classes offer foundational principles for wine tasting, and wine and food pairing, as well as key knowledge about winemaking, viticulture, and the wine regions of the world. The more advanced WSET Level 3 Award in Wines, including the tasting of over 70 wines, will take place live and in person in Asheville on January 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th, February 5th, and February 7th (exam) 2024, with virtual evening seminars January 17th and 24th .
Classes will be taught by MWWine School Director Melanie Webber DipWSET, who taught WSET Level 1 and 2 this January and May in Asheville. Melanie is a WSET certified wine educator who holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits, as well as the Wine Scholar Guild’s (WSG) French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar certifications. Melanie was recently shortlisted in the 2023 Jancis Robinson Wine Writing Competition for an article that was written in, and inspired in part by, some of her Asheville wine students: Finding Wet Stone: Why My Favorite Wine Person is the Wine Student.

In addition to her Asheville classes, Melanie has also taught in Paso Robles and Los Angeles since 2018, helping hundreds of industry professionals – from winemakers, to chefs to tasting room personnel – and wine lovers achieve their WSET certifications. She is an adjunct instructor in Wine Studies at College of the Canyons and her MWWine School is an approved program provider for the WSG’s Spanish and French Wine Scholar courses.
“My goal with my classes, which are live and in-person, is first and foremost to help students achieve their certifications, but also to make sure they have fun while building their wine expertise and to experience a broad range of wines from around the world to enhance and reinforce their learning,” continued Webber. The Classes
WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine. Students will explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, as well as learning food and wine pairing, wine service and etiquette. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is for individuals seeking a core understanding of a wide range of wines. This qualification explores the major grape varieties of the world and the regions in which they are grown. Through a combination of tasting and theory, students will explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence. WSET Level 3 Award in Wines provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making and is ideal for individuals who want to delve deeply into the world of wines. The course covers wines of the world in-depth (35+ hours) and tastings of 70+ wines.
