Paso Robles, CA– June 29, 2023 -- The MWWine School is now an Approved Program Provider for the globally recognized Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) certifications in San Luis Obispo County and will be offering WSET® Level 1, 2 and 3 Award in Wines classes, live and in person, at Broken Earth Winery in Paso Robles starting in August 2023. The WSET courses are among the most prestigious wine industry qualifications in the world and are ideal for beginners, connoisseurs, and wine and food industry professionals.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines class will take place Tuesday, August 15th, with WSET Level 2 Award in Wines taking place Monday, August 7th, Tuesday, August 8th and Monday, August 14th. The classes offer foundational principles for wine tasting, and wine and food pairing, as well as key knowledge about winemaking, viticulture, and the wine regions of the world. WSET Level 3 Award in Wines will take place November 27th, November 28th,December 4th, December 5th, and December 11th, with the exam on January 15th 2024.
Classes will be taught by MWWine School Director Melanie Webber DipWSET, a WSET certified wine educator. Melanie holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits, as well as the Wine Scholar Guild’s (WSG) French Wine Scholar and Spanish Wine Scholar certifications. Melanie previously taught WSET Levels 1-3 Award in Wines in Paso Robles through the course provider, The Wine House, helping hundreds of wine lovers and industry professionals – from winemakers, to chefs to tasting room personnel – achieve their WSET certifications. She also teaches WSET classes in Asheville, North Carolina and will be joining The Wine Studies program as an instructor at College of the Canyons in the fall. The MWWine School is also an approved program provider for the WSG’s Spanish and French Wine Scholar courses.
The Classes
WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine. Students will explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, as well as learning food and wine pairing, wine service and etiquette. It includes tasting of 10 wines and food pairing exercises. Successful candidates receive a certificate and lapel pin for the internationally-recognized WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is for individuals seeking a core understanding of a wide range of wines. This qualification explores the major grape varieties of the world and the regions in which they are grown. Through a combination of tasting and theory, students will explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence. The course includes tastings of over 30 wines. Successful candidates receive a certificate and lapel pin for the internationally-recognized WSET Level 2 Award in Wines. WSET Level 3 Award in Wines provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making and is ideal for individuals who want to delve deeply into the world of wines.
